LinkedIn’s Student App

LinkedIn launched the LinkedIn student app for iOS and Android. Leveraging LinkedIn’s extensive data, the student app makes it easier for students to find postings for jobs based on each particular student’s field of study (major), companies that have hired from the student’s school, and positions held by recent alumni of the student’s school with similar degrees. This is proficuous for students approaching graduation without a clear vision of what opportunities exist based on their education.

Using the App to Launch Your Search – Easy as 1-2-3!

1.) Visit the Apple App Store or the Google Play App Store to download the LinkedIn student app. Use the app to identify possible career goals. Determine the key requirements and major job functions for your potential career goals.

2.) Update your LinkedIn profile with details of your academic and work history to create a theme that matches your career goals. Showcase your most relevant skills in LinkedIn’s Skills & Endorsements section.

3.) Engage with your LinkedIn connections by “liking” posts, commenting on posts, adding new posts with news relevant to your career target, and endorsing others for skills. Invite your contacts to connect. Through your first-level connections, link to other connections at your target employers and in your target industry. This is the beginning of a career of networking.

If you are a soon-to-be graduate or a recent graduate, the LinkedIn student app could be a valuable tool for your job search strategy. The app can prompt you to explore jobs that you never considered and the recommendations are based on actual data relevant to your field of study and alma mater.
